In Her Own Words

Hi! I am  Shruti Pawar, a Special Educator, at Chetana . I work with children and adolescents with learning difficulties and behavioural disorders. I began my journey in this field 22 years ago at a small school in Goa, which inspired me to study more and train myself further. I have completed my course in Special Education from Alpha to Omega learning centre in Chennai, which opened the doors to many other fields in learning. Along with special education I am a trained Feuerstein Instrumental Enrichment Mediator and have also completed the Search and Teach program by Kathy Hopkins. My association with Chetana  has been since 2010 . I am fortunate to be a part of an institution which is known for its holistic approach towards mental health and well being. My work as a special educator is to help and guide students to overcome the difficulties that they face in their school environment. This entails helping them by providing tailor made strategies that will aid and develop their reading and writing skills. Not only do we look at the academic aspects of the child’s development, we also focus our attention to the cognitive and social needs of the child. We at Chetana understand the difficulties that parents face to bring up children with learning difficulties and behavioural disorders and so we also conduct workshops for parents as well. I can say this, that 22 years in this field has been a constant and enjoyable learning experience and I continue to learn a little more each day.
